Raritan Valley Symphonic Band

Winter Concert

Sunday,  December 3, 2000 at 3 pm

Location: Hillsborough High School Auditorium

In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of composer Aaron Copland, the Band will play Copland's, An Outdoor Overture and Down A Country Lane. Other major works on the program will be Williams' The Sinfonians, Swearington's The Light Eternal and Vaughan William's Sea Songs.

The featured soloist will be Christopher Hill, principal clarinetist of the South Dakota Symphony, whose virtuoso performances have been described by the press as "ethereal." He will play Rossini's Introduction, Theme & Variations.

A New Jersey native, Mr. Hill is a graduate of Hunterdon Central High School, attended Trenton State and holds both Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from Temple University. He has played with many New Jersey musical groups including the Raritan Valley Symphonic Band, Hunterdon Symphony and the Somerset Wind Ensemble. In addition to his position as principal clarinet with the South Dakota Symphony, he has performed with the Rome Festival Orchestra at the Basilica of San Clemente in Italy, the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, Binghamton Symphony, Omaha Symphony, and on the national tour of Carousel and world tour of Evita.

"I'm excited to return to New Jersey and to have an opportunity to perform with the Raritan Valley Symphonic Band," says Hill. "I played with the RVSB at its start in the 1980's and have watched it develop into one of the finest wind ensembles in the State."

The RVSB will also present a free master class by Mr. Hill for clarinetists and other interested musicians, open to both amateurs and professionals, on Wednesday, December 6 at 7:30 PM at Hillsborough High. Call 908/359-3136 for more information.
