For Immediate Release: The Raritan Valley Symphonic Band will present its annual children’s concert on Sunday, February 5th at 3:00 p.m. in the Hillsborough High School auditorium. The concert will be followed by a demonstration of woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments in the auditorium lobby given by members of the band. The school is located at 466 Raider Boulevard, Hillsborough, New Jersey. Admission is free and open to the public.
The concert, for children ages two to eight, will feature music from animated classics, including Selections from Walt Disney’s Fantasia and the Looney Tunes Overture. The band will also play current children’s favorites, such as the Spongebob Squarepants (Theme Song), as well as Music from the Incredibles. The concert will be approximately forty-five minutes long.
The children’s concert will be conducted by Ms. Jennifer Garibaldi, the assistant conductor and principal clarinetist of the RVSB. Ms. Garibaldi is currently a music educator in the Hillsborough school district and is also a member of the Eastern Wind Symphony. The RVSB is a 60-member adult symphonic band with its volunteer membership drawn from central New Jersey and the surrounding area. The band has a rich 22-year history and has become known for its tradition of bringing quality music to the community, frequently featuring some of New Jersey’s most talented soloists, and providing free and accessible music education outreach to the community.
Upcoming RVSB events include the spring concert, “The Greatest Generation” on April 2nd at 3 pm, as well as the annual pops concert on June 16th at 8 pm. Both events will be held at Hillsborough High School. Admission is free and open to the public.
The concert is made possible, in part, by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts and administered by the Somerset County Cultural & Heritage Commission through the State/County Partnership Local Arts Program. The Band is sponsored by the Jointure for Community Adult Education and by contributions from local businesses, corporations, foundations and private citizens.
