The first half of the program will include Jupiter from Holst's The Planets, the Western One-Step from Robert Russell Bennett's Suite of Old American Dances, and American Pageant, a medley of patriot music composed for the United States Marine Band. The second half will include what Conductor Jerry Rife describes as "a salute to the circus. We're going to recreate the color and excitement of the circus through its music, from the entrance of the circus performers to the high-wire acrobats, clowns, and wild animal acts. It's fast-paced and a lot of fun, something we think will appeal to everyone, young and old."
The 75 piece Raritan Valley Symphonic Band, comprised of professional and amateur area musicians, is recognized as one of New Jersey's finest community musical groups. The concert is made possible, in part, by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts and administered by the Somerset County Cultural & Heritage Commission through the State/County Partnership Local Arts Program. Funding has also been made possible, in part, by a grant from the Somerset County Cultural & Heritage Commission (SCC&HC) and Forbes Inc. through the SCC&HC Mini-Grant Program.
