Hillsborough, NJ: The Raritan Valley Symphonic Band, under the direction of Jennifer Garibaldi, will present a free children’s concert on Sunday, October 3 at 1:30 p.m. at Hillsborough High School. The school is located at the intersection of Amwell Road and Raider Boulevard in Hillsborough, New Jersey.

The theme for the one-hour concert, which will be geared toward young children from ages two to seven, will be the “Music Olympics” featuring music from around the world. The program will include Can Can from Orpheus in the Underworld by Jacques Offenbach, The Irish Washerwoman by Leroy Anderson, excerpts from Lieutenant Kijé by Sergei Prokofiev, and other familiar and fun classics from the countries represented in the Olympics, all arranged for wind ensemble. Throughout the concert, the children will be invited to clap, sing and play along.  At the close of the concert, children will receive musical passports, which they can have stamped by the musicians in different sections of the band, and learn more about the instruments.

Jennifer Garibaldi, who will lead the concert, is the Band’s Assistant Conductor, and teaches music in the Bernards Township Schools.  “We chose the Music Olympics theme because it reminds us that people are united through music, regardless of what language you speak, or what your cultural background is. We want to encourage children to love music, and show them what a wonderful way it is to learn about people of all cultures”, says Garibaldi.

The RVSB is recognized as one of New Jersey’s finest community bands, and is known for always giving its audience “something extra” in each concert.  The Band’s conductor, Dr. Berz, is Director of Bands at Rutgers-The State University of New Jersey.
